I love any kind of speciality printer paper from t-shirt transfers to make your own shrinky dinks. I was thrilled to find water slip decal paper. It's like making stickers for ceramics. Fun fun.

Today I finally climbed up out of my work hole after 3 weeks of
designing hell* to find a nice surprise...I've been tagged by sjwhidden at Cheap Opulance and fashion maven at wardrobe_remix.

Here goes....7 things about me:

1::i'm really really shy but no one ever believes me (must be the
bright yellow socks)

2::i have a very overactive imagination and exciting fantasy life. the real world can be so disappointing sometimes (working to change that).

3::i wake up naturally to the sun everyday. my neighbors must be excited i have no drapes!

4::my first job was designing medical tools for minimally invasive heart surgery. i talked my way into fashion and somehow it stuck.

5::i live in nyc but dream of running away to small towns with big hearts and even bigger thrift stores and flea markets.

6::one day i hope to have a store and interact with real people during the day not 2 dimensional fashion-y girls and boys prettier than me. (macy's folks, pls don't find my blog)

7::i love quiet moments and being alone. i love stealing the spotlight when i want it. i love getting lost in a crowd. i love breaking the rules and cramming a little extra info to list item #7.

*There is nothing like getting paid to do something all the time to
kill your passion or at least temporarily steal all your energy.

Friday I was riding home on the L train wearing my huge platform shoes. I stood up to get off and heard a cracking sound under my foot that sounded like glass. I sheepishly lifted my foot to inspect the damage. Just as I finally identified what I had stepped on, a girl exclaims behind me "You crushed my fingernail." It was someone's fleshy colored french manicure tip. I was horrified and looked back at the girl apologetically to find her smiling and breaking into laughter. She was joking. I found it hilarious and probably a joke I would have made upon witnessing the same thing. If we were like 5 years old and we were at the beach instead of the L train, we would have been friends for life...ok maybe just the summer but no, we are adults and that is the only moment we will ever have....but it was a good one.

Oh no. I'm sorry. I've been sooooo crazy with work that I like totally forgot I had a blog until just now. I saw this ad for a laundry detergent specially formulated for black fabric and thought I have to share this. For a girl that can't wear jeans to work, black has become my savior. Feeling under the weather or a recovering from a late night, don't waste your time stuggling to pull together an outfit, just wear black and blend into the rest of the product team that always wears all black at the office. It's a fallback that has saved me many times but I have to say, as a designer, I see more than just black. I see black-black, dingy greying-black, blue-black, green-black, red-black...all these undertones that make an all black outfit not so cool as each fabric washes out in a slightly different way. Now this detergent claims it actually intesifies dark hues maybe even restoring them to original state of perfect black. Hooray! This might be my first non-book purchase off AMAZON.COM

NO I have not been brainwashed into endorsing stupid products on AMAZON. I'm really this excited all on my own. Damn I need to stop working so much!

Fashion Forward

The problem with working in fashion is that you design so far ahead that you don't know what date or season it is. I just wrote 2008 on my rent check for like the 3rd time this year. The other problem is that I'm already thinking about my Fall 2007 wardrobe as we fit and fine tune our designs already in production. See that stuff down there, I love it...even the wacky shoe wings (?) but by the time it's on the rack for us to buy, I will be over it. Oh my, what's a girl to do...always yearning for what I can't have and then already onto the next by the time I can have it.

This morning the Starbucks crew accidentally dropped my hot breakfast sandwich before handing it to me. I was in a hurry and it was technically in a bag so I implemented the 5 second rule and told everyone else in line "this never happened" then took it and ran....it was hilarious. I'm pretty sure I will now be subject of an urban legend but you know the truth...nothing edible touched the ground! Aside from a little cheese and sausage shift from the impact, nothing was wrong.

And yes, I know some of you are more horrified I actually ate (floor or no floor) a super fattening Starbucks breakfast in the first place. Those of you are probably in fashion or you are the people that faint on the L train in the morning from not eating breakfast. While I am not advocating a Starbucks breakfast, I do want to get to work on time. People please eat ;)

I learned how to make my "photo face" from the very best, My MOM! Actually the top one is our "mirror face." The bottom one is our "photo face." It's so strange that we both do it. My mom sent me this article saying 30% of women polled would give up having sex for a year in exchange for a shopping spree. Around 15% would give up sex for 5 years for a whole new wardrobe. Who are these people?! I have to admit, I have given this some thought. I would not give up sex but instead give up my clothes for some new furniture and house wares. I would even give up clothes completely for my very own home or apartment. In fact I would lie around naked for 5 years just to have a newly furnished home of my own design...it might even help my sex life ;)

Today I will be attending the Marc Jacobs fashion show. While I had hopes of waking up early and making myself extra fabulous, instead I woke up late and was forced into my new la boheme weekend look created by an elaborate process of washing my hair then stuffing it semi-damp into my knit cap with a slight twist in attempt to make curls. Voila'

For those that are in the know...there are a few other signs that I don't quite belong among the fashionably elite.
